Rosy sedge, Carex rosea

Rosey sedge can grow in dry shade, and its fresh-looking, light green leaves brighten dark areas of the garden. It combines beautifully with other woodland plants and can serve as a groundcover when some ephemerals go dormant. As a cool-season plant, it grows vigorously in the cooler weather in spring and again in fall. No woodland is complete without this beautiful sedge.

Growing conditions:

Naturally, rosy sedge grows in mesic to dry deciduous and mixed woods in dappled to full shade. It is easy to grow in tough conditions, but it prefers rich, slightly acidic woodland soil. Leave the leaves on the flower beds in the fall to retain moisture and create humus-rich soil very quickly.
