Early Blooming
Click on the picture of each plant for more photos and information.
Early emerging bees, like bumble bee queens, small sweat bees, small carpenter bees and mining bees, rely on early blooming flowers. The nectar provides them with energy, and the pollen is the main ingredient for their bee bread, which they provide their larvae.
Early butterflies such as the Mourning cloak and Comma butterflies overwinter as adults and fuel up on the nectar of early flowering plants. Soon after, red admirals and painted lady butterflies and then hummingbirds arrive!
