Red trillium, Trillium erectum
 
Red trilliums grow to heights of 20 - 45 cm. This hard-to-find spring ephemeral has a reddish flower. Ants disperse their seeds.

Growing conditions:
Red trillium prefers moist, rich woodland soil, which can be mimicked in gardens by leaving the leaves. It occurs in deciduous or mixed woods in full to part shade.
