Wild strawberries, Fragaria virginiana

Strawberries grow to 7.5 - 15 cm tall. They spread and form colonies via runners, which makes them a great ground cover. Deer resistant.

The white flowers bloom in spring, and the fruit ripens in July.
The small berries are edible. Tea from leaves is high in vitamin C.

82 species of butterflies and moths use native strawberries as their host plant during their caterpillar stage in our area.

Growing conditions:

Easy to grow. Prefers sunny sites but can grow in part shade and any soil or gravel.
