The cylindrical blazing star provides a purple colour splash for the front of your garden beds as it grows only about 30 cm tall. Hence, it is also called dwarf blazing star. It blooms between July and October.
Ecology:
Cylindrical blazing star is a pollinator and butterfly magnet. The seeds feed songbirds in the fall. It is the host plant for several moth species.
Growing conditions:
In the wild, cylindrical blazing star grows in prairies, savannas and rocky cliffs. It requires full sun and thrives in sandy, rocky, well-drained limestone soils with average to dry conditions. It is drought tolerant once established.
