Lance-leaf coreopsis, Coreopsis lanceolata
Cheer up your garden with the easy-to-grow lance-leaf coreopsis. The wonderful, warm yellow, almost orange flowers make your garden glow from early June to August. Prompt deadheading will extend blooming into September.
Coreopsis grows quickly in the spring and fills out the space fast.
The plant will be drought- and somewhat deer-resistant once established.
Ecology:
The open flower shape makes coreopsis an inviting and busy place for many different kinds of pollinators. Bees, syrphid flies, wasps, butterflies, and beetles enjoy the nectar. Coreopsis pollen supports several pollen-specialist bees, and some moth species feed on its leaves.
Growing conditions:
In the wild, lance-leaf coreopsis grows in meadows and prairies along roads and shoreline slopes. It thrives in sunny, dry to medium locations with any type of soil, even rocky, poor soil. It is a very hardy, easy-to-grow plant ideal for front yards, boulevards, and schools, and it can thrive in dry, hot sites once established.
