Ohio spiderwort, Tradescantia ohiensis
A perfect, very hardy and adaptable plant for boulevards and the front of a border.
Its beautiful blue flowers open early in the morning and close in the afternoon.
Ecology:
Ohio spiderwort only produces pollen, no nectar. Since it blooms early and long, from May to July, it supports the nest provisioning with abundant pollen for bees of all sizes, especially for bumble bees.
Growing conditions:
In the wild, Ohio spiderwort grows in thickets, prairies and moist meadows and can thrive in any soil; alkaline to acidic, sand to clay, medium-wet to dry.
