Virgin's Bower, Clematis virginiana

A native clematis that can grow quickly to cover a fence in one summer with its beautiful leaves and fragrant white flowers, which bloom in July and August. One plant can have flowers that are male, female or both. As a clematis, it twines around structures and plants. Funcky feathery seed heads appear in fall and last through winter for great winter interest.

This native vine attracts many pollinators, including bees, wasps and flies for nectar.
The dense vines provide excellent cover and nesting sites for birds. It is a host plant for several moth species. Sparrows, finches and other songbirds eat the abundant seed.

Growing conditions:

Virgin's Bower prefers medium to moist soil in sun to part shade. It is a very versatile and adaptable, hardy plant.
